My name is Briston Brooks and I'm writing an adult sci-fi titled Logged In! Stalk me on twitter!
Logged In EVERY HEART A DOORWAY + READY PLAYER ONE where A VR game starts a rip in reality and Seth needs his worst enemy to help him stop inter-dimensional collapse.
Here's a visual:
Like video games? Constant banter? Hate-to-love relationships? Sci-fi with a dash of fantasy? Magic? Resistance stories? Shifting reality? Trust issues? New worlds combined with ours? Interdimensional crisis? LGBT+ romances (yes plural)? Brown-skinned leads? Ownvoices bi rep? Diversity in general?
Staccato'd questions?
Okay, not the last one. But if you like one or all of the above, then you should stay tuned because I'm participating in #PitchWars 2017.
Hi! THAT'S ME. That was a choice that I made. A questionable one. Unlike my decision to do PitchWars! Which isn't questionable. I have so much confidence. Endless, really.
So let's talk about me. I'm Briston Brooks! The person in the picture. In case you weren't following. I'm 27 yo bi cis girl (who identifies as partially asexual) with ADHD and horrible anxiety. (I'm MISERABLE writing this btw). I'm an INFJ, a Slytherin, and obsessed with personality quizzes. I'll try to tell you your MBTI type in under two minutes of meeting you.
I've been writing since I was 10, but I chased the easy money and ended up in IT. God help me. I write across genres, but currently, I am writing adult fantasy! I'm a writing advice addict, so the idea of a mentor is great for me. In general. Getting feedback is one of my very favorite things. Some of my best scenes have come from two-word suggestions from my CPs.
I'm absolutely a pantser when it comes to writing, but I've started forcing myself to outline. I generally use the 6 core competencies from Story Engineering by Larry Brooks. That absolutely redefined what it means to plot for me.
Want a sample? Sure you do!
If you want MORE sample, then you can check out my self-published NA m/m contemporary novel REASON NUMBER ONE. It's currently got 250 ratings and 4.14 on Goodreads and a 4.5 on Amazon with 51 reviews! A famous booktuber, whittynovels, called it, "SIMON VS meets THE RAVEN CYCLE." And yes, it's contemporary, but like I said, I write across genres.
My novels are always very voice-driven and character-focused. I can write a mean action scene, but I'm probably not going to love it as much as some banter between characters. My prose is full of imagery. If you aren't into at least a little metaphor, then you might not like me. I love my metaphors and similes. For any and all occasions. And almost nothing I write is anything less than gung-ho gay, and I am incapable of writing without at least a little romance. I'm a sucker for a good relationship. I've been told I'm good at sexual tension. I'd like to think I am.
Diversity is huge for me in writing and reading, so next to telling a good story, that's the number one thing I want to do. Open people's eyes to the world, and help them realize that it's not all white and straight and cis and abled.
I'm also a cat person. ONE THOUSAND PERCENT. I have two cats, R2 and D2. Yeah. Those are their names. And they are my children. The lights of my life. The moon of my... okay, I'll stop. Oh, and I'm a nerd. If you couldn't tell from the cat names. Think Pokemon, Star Wars, Star Trek, a ton of video games that I won't bother listing, but one I will list, if you've heard of it, is .hack// because I drew some of my inspiration for my novel from that.
Do you feel like you know me now? Do you feel like we're friends? Have we connected on the next level?
Okay, do you need anymore? We'll skip the tragic backstory about how my father ran away to be a wolf and my mother joined the peace choir and never returned. (None of that is even close to true.)
